"Old Red" is the original fiberglass dune buggy built in Newport Beach, California by Bruce Meyers in 1966. This little piece of automotive history also set the first Baja four-wheel record in 1967. |

1962 HONDA SCRAMBLER
OWNER: BILLY ROBERTSON JR.
Way back in 1962, motorcyclists Dave Ekins and Billy Robertson were the first pioneers to create a Baja “record run” from Tijuana to La Paz. The effort set the foundation for the first Mexican 1000. The bikes they used? A 1962 Honda Scrambler. |

Perhaps no single vehicle was more innovative than Vic Hickey's incredible Baja Boot. First built in 30 days for the inaugural Mexican 1000, this car was later purchased and raced by actor Steve McQueen and his friend Bud Ekins. |

1970 DRINO MILLER SINGLE-SEATER

In the early 1970s, no other VW-powered car was more famous than this Drino Miller-created single-seater. Powered by a Drino-built 2,180cc VW powerplant, this perfectly restored jewel claimed the overall win at the 1970 Mexican 1000 co-driven by Miller and Vic Wilson. |

Build as a customer car by the legendary Bill Stoppe, this one-of-a-kind Ford Edsel is one of the most unique Baja race cars ever built. Now restored to its original glory, the Edsel raced the Mexican 1000 in 1972 and 1973.

While Toyota has a long and storied history in off-road racing, its legacy started in 1973 with this simple Land Cruiser. Built by Four Wheeler magazine, this propane-powered Toyota driven by journalist Bill Sanders gave the brand its first desert victory. |

1976 FUNCO BEL-RAY BULLET
Now completely restored to museum quality, this unique Funco-built single-seater was driven by Bud Feldkamp and Malcolm Smith to victory in the 1977 Baja 1000. Originally prepped by the iconic Scott McKenzie, the car was one of the first to incorporate a VW independent rear suspension. |
